Derek Jeter officially announced his partnership with Gillette on Monday. The New Yankees starter will make his promotional campaign debut for the gel & razor giant this Fall.
Gillette today announced Jeter as it's new Gillette Champions ambassador. Jeter will join Gillette for a multi medium campaign that already includes other celebrities like Tiger Woods, Roger Federer and Thierry Henry.
The campaign is the "The Best a Man Can Get."
"Being a part of the Gillette Champions program is a great honor for me," said Jeter. "In baseball, having confidence is essential, and a critical element of confidence is looking and feeling my best."
"The Gillette name is synonymous with being the best. Jeter has proven he has what it takes to be a champion on the field," said Chip Bergh of
Gillette parent Procter & Gamble. "He was chosen not only for his outstanding sporting performances, but also for his performance off the field, in
his charitable actions and his reputation as an icon of true sporting values. That is what the Gillette Champions is all about. Men, women and children here in
North America look up to athletes who raise their level of play and bring the game to a new level, who set the standard in sports and style."

New York Yankees captain Derek Jeter is joining the team of Major League Baseball's oldest sponsor. Gillette, an MLB
corporate partner since 1939, is close to completing an endorsement deal with Jeter that would see him join Gillette's "Champions" campaign. The
year-old effort, seen around the world, features Tiger Woods, Roger Federer, Thierry Henry and other
endorsers inserted for local relevancy pitching Gillette products, especially the Fusion razor.
Sources said that while the deal is not finalized, the Yankees shortstop shot an ad in Orlando for longtime Gillette agency BBDO during the final month of spring training. The ad, which is currently intended for use in North America, is expected to break in May.
Given baseball's appeal in America, Jeter could presumably be taking the place of Henry in the campaign.

Boston-based Gillette is signing Jeter after failing to renew a longtime sponsorship with the Boston Red Sox that included signage at Fenway Park. Is that enough to make Red Sox fans switch blades?
